3 Closet Organizer Methods to Use this Spring

Spring is fast approaching in Massachusetts, which means it is almost time to prepare your custom closet for a wardrobe switch-out. If you’re like many people, you have accumulated more clothing throughout the fall and winter season. Before you pack away your winter wear, take some time to go through each article of clothing to sort it into piles to keep, donate and throw away. Get these organized in advance to save time next time you need to swap out your wardrobe.

Next, retrieve your summer wardrobe from storage and prepare to sort these, as well. Try on pieces of clothing you are not 100 percent sure will fit in order to “thin out the herd” at the beginning of the closet organization process. Once you have your wardrobe organized and ready for warmer weather, take care throughout the season to keep it that way. These tips from Norwood’s top closet organizers will make it easy to keep the clutter from your closet this year.

  1. Buy one, toss one

Whenever you buy an new article of clothing, force yourself to discard or donate a similar piece of clothing. Throwing out a worn-out shirt every time you purchase a new one or donating an old pair of shoes when you buy a new pair will prevent closet overcrowding and help keep your wardrobe fresh!
  2.

  3. Just throw it in the bag

We all have those items we just can’t part ways with no matter how old, frayed or ill-fitting they are. Try putting these items in a trash bag at the back of your closet. If you forget about the clothes, then throw them away or donate them after a couple of months, but if you remember a certain piece and go through the trouble to get it out of the bag, you should probably keep it.
  4.

  5. Pop some tags

How many times have you found clothing hanging with the tags still attached several days, weeks or months later? Keep the tags on new purchases until you actually wear the piece of clothing. If the tag is still on the garment in a few months after you purchase it, chances are you won’t ever wear it. Keep your receipt taped to the tag in case this happens so that you have a chance of returning the item.
